CHOON.NET VPS Updates

Dear all valued VPS customers,

This is an update that all CHOON.NET VPS based on Xen will be running Xen version 3.0.3-0 with kernel version 2.6.16.30-rc1. Xen 3.0.3-0 release includes many new features as well as enhanced stability and performance. Some highlights include:

a new easy-to-use CPU scheduler which includes weights, caps, and automatic SMP load-balancing;
support for Xen-oprofile to allow measurement and optimization of code paths;
greatly enhanced support for unmodified ("hvm") guests including Windows and legacy Linux operating systems;
support for dynamic-allocation and copy-on-write disks ("blktap/qcow");
packet segmentation offload in guests to improve network performance;
enhanced support for IA64 (IPF) systems; and initial support for Power.


While Xen 3.0.3-0 release officially compiled with kernel version 2.6.16.29, CHOON.NET made an effort to patch/compile/test with the latest kernel version in 2.6.16.x line in order to have those latest bugs/security fixes.

All current CHOON.NET VPSes have already been upgraded to the above-mentioned version.

Dear all valued VPS customers,

This is an update that all CHOON.NET VPS based on Xen will be running Xen version 3.1.0 with kernel version 2.6.18.8. Xen 3.1.0 release includes many new features as well as enhanced stability and performance. Some highlights include:

XenAPI 1.0 support

XML configuration files for virtual machines;
VM life-cycle management operations; and
Secure on- or off-box XML-RPC with bindings for many languages

Preliminary save/restore/migrate support for HVM (e.g. Windows) VMs;
Dynamic memory control for HVM guests;
32-on-64 PV guest support (run PAE PV VMs on a 64-bit Xen!); and
Blktap copy-on-write disk support.

Dear all valued VPS customers,

This is an update that all CHOON.NET VPSes based on Xen will be upgraded to Xen version 3.3.0 with kernel version 2.6.18.8. This upgrade maintenance window will start from 23 Aug 2008 02:00AM GMT +8 till 25 Aug 2008 12:00AM GMT +8. A reboot is required and there will be a downtime for no longer than 15 minutes.
